Winter is almost upon us again and those summer shoes are fast becoming unwearable. So, what styles of women’s shoes will be strutting down the catwalk this season? You can’t go wrong with aviator-style lace-up boots. They tend to be available in suede or brown leather and come in a popular lace-up style. The interior and trim tends to be finished with a sheepskin fleece, giving you the ultimate in warmth and comfort against the snow as well as being at the height of fashion.

If large boots aren’t quite your thing, why not try some warm and cozy shoes or ankle boots? The sheepskin fleece effect is also available in the moccasin style ankle boot and can often be found in a soft, sandy suede color. Often, the cuffs can be turned either up or down allowing you to either show the wonderful fleece lining off to your friends or turn the cuffs up and keep that lovely warm coziness to yourself. Well, I know which I’d choose!

Although fleece-lined boots and shoes may be really cool, they’re not terrible stylish or sophisticated. Fear not, though, as long-leg black leather boots are still very much in vogue. If you’re after that sleek and sophisticated look, you can’t go wrong with soft black leather or chocolate brown suede. These types of boots are comfortable, sexy and stylish. The heels aren’t very large this season either, so you shouldn’t have any difficulty walking in your sexy new boots.

If you’re planning on hitting the slopes this winter, you’ll probably already have some ski boots. Ski style boots are set to be one of the biggest sellers this winter, with pink and white leather styles being most popular. The quilted finish on the outside, coupled with the lace-up style and comfortable, waterproof interior is going to be a big hit in the stores and sets off the winter look perfectly whether you’re on a ski slope or a sidewalk.

Fashion doesn’t always go hand in hand with practicality and sometimes it’s nice to go out in something a little more sleek and stylish than a pair of boots. The good news is that peep shoe toes are still very fashionable in both black leather and soft colored suede. Suede may not be a great idea in rain or snow, but certainly gives off a sexier look than black leather – particularly if worn in red. The long heels give your body that extra curve and posture, finishing off the look perfectly.

The San Juan Howler has amazingly morphed into a premier sports event showcasing Nicaragua’s natural beauty – it’s absolutely amazing. The Howler race includes 18K, 28K and 42 K – make sure you check mark December 11, 2010 for this event.

True, it’s the vision and dedication of race organizers Bodhin Adventure Services based in San Juan del Sur on Nicaragua’s Pacific coastline. However, it’s also thanks to race participants, sponsors and volunteers teaming up for an unforgettable mountain bike race. Not only are visitors delighted to visit this destination gem. More significantly, Howler benefits a cash-strapped economy such as Nicaragua’s when affluent adventure travelers from other countries seek their racing nirvana with this race. And, locals get to compete alongside their sports heroes.

How Howler Participants Pedal-Power Mountain Biking to Higher Highs

Take for instance Rod Dagneau and Tara Walsh from Vancouver, B.C., Canada. In 2009, Rod placed second in Howler’s elite division while Tara was the sole female competitor. Race organizer Larry Thraen notes, “Not only did Rod and Tara make a huge donation with their bikes-they also flew down a bike box stuffed with new helmets, gloves, glasses, jerseys, tires, reflectors and brake pads. Nearly everyone took home something from the race!”

“After witnessing the huge surprise on Harvin’s face, when he received one of the two bikes we brought down, it’s wonderful to see the impact by donating to the cause and how it can touch the community. The tears still start to well up when I think about it.”

How a Difference is Made by Sponsors

Behind every successful event are incredible sponsors who give selflessly. What goes around comes around, though. Sponsors ultimately develop a caring brand identity. Research shows sponsors get back even more in return-with an enhanced image and amplified customer support.

Classy, charming and gracious accommodations. Good food and books. Sponsors from Real estate, Construction, restaurants, hotels, the locals just asking to help, you name it; our kind sponsors top the bill with their generous contributions.

How Volunteers People-Power Put Howler Up and Over

Howler’s powerful impact is bringing a world-class sport to Nicaragua. Howler attracts elite mountain bike racers from Central and South America, Europe and North America. Racers bring along family and/or friends-who end up helping out.

Organizer Larry Thraen recalls, “A visiting doctor and his wife generously volunteered a half day of their vacation to oversee a technically challenging section of the course to help ensure the safety of the athletes.”

Talk about local Nica pride getting a boost volunteering for a new off-track race event that’s recognized overseas.

Truly, win-win-win people power taking mountain bike racing to new heights. That’s what’s to howl about with the San Juan Howler.

When you go hunting, there’s nothing more important than picking the right deer hunting rifle. Make sure you choose one that will be compatible with what you’re trying to hunt, where you’re hunting, and what kind of hunter you are – the action, ballistics, and size are all important factors. If you have a deer hunting rifle that meets your needs, you’ll have a more successful season.

Where Will You Be Hunting?

The two main types of deer hunting environments are the deep woods/dense brush and open range country. You may be hunting in an area that has a mixture of both these environment types. Every hunting environment has different styles of shooting and require rifles with different characteristics.

Deep Woods/Dense Brush Deer Hunting Rifles

Deer hunting rifles for a hunting area of woods and brush should perform best in close to medium range shooting. The average shooting distance in this type of environment is from twenty-five to two hundred yards. You will be best served if your deep woods deer hunting rifle is relatively light, less than nine pounds including scope, and short, with a barrel length of less than twenty-two inches. Maneuverability is important when hunting in dense brush. Deer hunting rifles which can be reloaded quickly, such as automatics and lever actions, are suggested in rough country deer hunting since fast follow up shots are frequently needed. Heavy bullet cartridges for brush penetration are needed, such as .270 caliber or larger and at minimum a 120 grain bullet. Calibers or cartridges which exceed 2200 feet per second velocity are not suggested as bullet deflection by the brush must be at a minimum. Scopes of four power or adjustable scopes going down to 3X are suggested, and if the terrain only allows shots of up to fifty yards you may prefer open sighting. Practice at the rifle range to determine if you can become comfortable with open site shooting.

Open Range Hunting Deer Hunting Rifles

The best deer hunting rifles for open areas are made for long range shooting, and most are best at shooting 300 yards or farther. In this situation, mobility is less important than being able to shoot accurately, and the ability to make long distance shots. That said, most open range deer hunting rifles are heavier than their deep woods counterparts, and have a longer barrel. The best calibers and cartridges for open range deer hunting, are flat shooting, and high velocity. 6MM (.243) calibers or higher will work well, and bullets from 100 grains or heavier will be best. When shooting larger caliber rifles, heavier bullets are generally best for accurate shooting. The minimum required scope for most shooters is a 6×9 variable scope.

Find What You Want

When you start looking for the best deer hunting rifle for you, you want to make sure that you keep the above considerations in mind. Make sure that you are comfortable with the way that you’re shooting, and how you shoot when using a high caliber or magnum caliber rifle. Do you really want to lug ten or twelve pounds of long rifle with you around your deer hunting terrain?

You can probably go to your local hunting rifle dealer and try out a variety of different deer hunting rifles, and get a better feel for what you want and what “fits” you.. You may also want to consider asking any successful hunters that you’re friends with what kinds of rifles they use, and their reasons for using them. If you’re really interested in learning about their firearms, you could ask your friends to let you hold and handle their rifles, and ask if there are any things that they don’t like about them
